What's your angle?

It would be helpful to me - and maybe others - to see the kind of letters folks are writing to their congressvermin and the vermin-in-chief. If you have a letter or letters that you are proud of, I'd like to read 'em.

Most especially, if you have letters that have drawn anything other than the canned, staff-written puss that I've been getting from my own vermin.

Do you suppose maybe my opinion of them as vermin is affecting their response? I hadn't thought of that! Oh, crap! What if I'm going to have to be civil to them?

Sir, I come to your mailbox again with a heartfelt plea from the depths of my soul. Please, PLEASE do all you can to stand for the American people and their Constitution against the crushing tide of fascism and dictatorship that is pouring from the White House and the Federal legislature.

First, please do all you can to secure the defeat of the President’s shameless attempt to load the Supreme Court with another racist, fascist thug. Please help in the effort to prevent Judge Sotomayor from being confirmed.

Second, please do all you can do secure the defeat of the President’s despicable assault on
individual rights that is explicit in his health care reform bill. This bill will increase health care cost, not decrease it, and at the same time will reduce, by orders of magnitude, the amount of health care available. It will establish a government edifice with absolute power of life and death over the people. “Think you need heart surgery? You’re too old. Just lay there and die. See how we keep health care cost down? Now you don’t have to worry about paying for surgery.” This plan is worse than anything I can possibly express, and I have a pretty fair vocabulary.

Third, when the cap and trade bill comes to the House for approval, please fight against it. It is one more block in the wall of absolute dictatorship that the President is attempting to build around this nation.

The seeds of dreadful hardship, suffering, and even death are encapsulated within each of these three issues. Each of them will give the government authority to commit murder.

  2. Udall responded to my letter with some drivel about how he has a responsibility to create a "public option" for the children. It was a real "widows and orphans" thing. Here's my response. It was in 16-point bold font.

    NO!!!! NO!!!! NO!!!! NO!!!!

Health care reform must NOT include a public option!

A huge percentage of the current cost of health care is a result of government interference and mindless, power-grabbing regulation!

I beg you to work for the individual American! We don't need more government interference in our lives. We need less!

The current plan will do nothing to curb cost. It will, in fact, guarantee a hysterical rise in cost. It will also guarantee the utter destruction of the finest health care edifice in the world, and immeasurable needless suffering and premature death.

Please, please, vote for the people. Fight against this liberal, fascist monstrosity!

  3. Here’s a letter I wrote to our congressional delegation on 1 July, 1990. I don’t even remember who all they were, then. Steve Schiff and Pete Domenici, I know. I think Bingaman was there, too. I just found this. It must have been a good day for me.

    Gentlemen,

Though I personally disagree with Lincoln on many points, this quotation is just as true today as when he said it, in 1858:

“…when you have extinguished his soul in this world and placed him where the ray of hope is blown out as in the darkness of the damned, are you quite sure that the demon you have roused will not turn and rend you? What constitutes the bulwark of our own liberty and independence? It is not our frowning battlements, or bristling sea coasts, our army and our navy. These are not our reliance against tyranny. All of those may be turned against us without making us weaker for the struggle. Our reliance is in the love of liberty which God has planted in us. Our defense is in the spirit which prized liberty as the heritage of all men, in all lands everywhere. Destroy this spirit and you have planted the seeds of despotism at your own doors. Familiarize yourselves with the chains of bondage and you prepare your own limbs to wear them. Accustomed to trample on the rights of others, you have lost the genius of your own independence and become the fit subjects of the first cunning tyrant who rises among you.”

The identity of the “he” of whom Lincoln spoke does not matter. Insert the name of any group and it remains true. I would apply it to the Individualist, to the Patriot, to the Honest, to the Productive, and most of all to the decent, conscientious, and law abiding Owner of a Firearm.

The identity of the “you” to whom Lincoln spoke is far more critical: those who supported slavery and profited from it, then and now. Today this should be addressed to those politicians who are willing to subvert the principles of the Constitution to enhance their own power. It should be addressed to those citizens who are willing to destroy the rights of others for what they believe to be their own security. They are fools to think they can cut the heart out of the Constitution for only THE OTHER guy. They think the demon of tyranny will be satisfied with the souls they offer it, and do not know such tidbits will only sharpen its hunger.

I beg you to fight this assault on the Sprit of Liberty in America. Vote against HR4079, against S1970 against the President’s Violent Crime Control Bill. These are not part of a war on drugs, but a war on the American People. Vote against laws that would prohibit the burning of the flag; the best protection for our national symbols is the virtue of the nation. The flag of a benevolent, just republic does not need protection; the flag of a corrupt, cannibalistic dictatorship does not deserve it.

    Sincerely,
    Wess Rodgers
